In-Person Plein Air Workshop

"A Day at the Beach Sketching Workshop"

5 Hours of Outdoors Colour Sketching

Location: Port Stanley (meet up at 'Little Beach' parking lot (free parking Oct-May))

This workshop is ideal if you've tried drawing or painting and would like to explore sketching outdoors. We'll work through the process step by step, so you can focus on enjoying the experience and learning to capture the landscape in a colour sketch.

Spend the day at the beach enjoying a lakeside view in Port Stanley!!  You'll learn to sketch with colour to capture the feeling of the water and beach using mixed media.

This workshop will show you how to break down a scene so you can have a process for creating colour sketches of landscape views.

By the end of the day, you'll have:

  • Discovered how to choose and simplify a landscape view.
  • Created a colour sketch inspired by the beach and lake.
  • Learn a process you can repeat on your own outings.
  • Discovered how to use a compact, portable art kit outdoors.

A little preparation makes the day even more enjoyable... Before the workshop, you'll receive a downloadable plein air sketching guide with a simple materials list, tips for setting up your portable kit, and an introduction to the colour-sketching approach we'll explore together. You'll arrive ready to get started, with plenty of time to enjoy the view and make your own sketch.

A few photos... showing me and some of my plein air on-site sketches. Each time I create a sketch or painting on-site I learn something new, I think that's why it continues to be so fun and challenging. In this workshop I want you to find out for yourself just how enjoyable it is to immerse yourself in capturing the views around you.

Hello Creatives!

Being creative and having the skills to express what you see and feel is open to everyone! All you need is the interest to learn, and the desire to pursue the journey. I've been professional artist for over 25 years... but I didn't start out that way. I was where you are now!

I taught myself to draw as a young person through trial and error, then building on that skill went to art school. I slowly took the steps that helped me become a person who can express my feelings and ideas by making art.

That practice has enriched my life beyond measure. I can help you take those steps too, whether your goal is to learn how to create art for your own private pleasure, or whether you'd like to take your art further.

I'm here to be of service and help you get where you want to go, and show you pathway to your artistic journey!!
