DAY 13/30 'Wild Asters', This was the only purple aster plant in the wild scrub area beside the lane. Strange that there was only one, so I thought it deserved to be captured in paint.
I love the sunburst feeling of this flower's petals, so extended the idea into the background to make this flower feel more powerful and monumental. This Autumn Journal series of paintings has been liberating in regards to my painting style. I'm just going with the flow by leaning into what I think is working while in the process, and experimenting with new ways of seeing and making marks. Even though these are plein air paintings, I'm not beholden to perfectly representing the subject, I'm just using it as a starting point and then expressing the feeling of what I'm seeing so that I can share those impressions with you.
