How I Painted This Village Reflection Scene, Step by Step!
Watch this time-lapse to see how to paint this folk art-inspired autumn village reflection painting, from start to finish! This ''Harbour Village View'' landscape was created using acrylic paint on stretched canvas. In this time-lapse, I'm showing how I painted this colorful village reflections painting.
The painting sold a while ago, but I really enjoyed creating this piece in a cheerful folk art style! The imagery in this painting is from my imagination, based on years of observation (so no source material was referenced). You'll notice that partway through, the painting seems to turn upside-down... often when I'm painting, I'll turn the canvas around so I can see the piece in a new way. Then I turn it right side up to finish off. It seems odd I know, but the process has always worked for me lol.
This painting was created using acrylic paint on stretched canvas. I start with an orange base as it makes the colors I put on top brighter, plus any gaps between strokes will show orange instead of white. This is how I usually start all my acrylic paintings.
My palette for this piece is the same as many of my other paintings...(Cadmium Red Medium, Cadmium Orange, Red Oxide, Light Green Permanent, Brilliant Yellow Green, Dioxazine Purple, Phthalocyanine Blue, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Raw Sienna, Burnt Umber, White and Black) Please enjoy the journey as I create this painting, and I hope you learn something new about making art.
If you have any questions about my process, materials, or artwork, be sure to ask in the comments!! Cheers, Cathy : )
