How to Paint a Moonrise Landscape with Acrylic | Time Lapse Painting
How to create a country road moonrise painting from start to finish! I'm showing my art process for creating a landscape with acrylic paint on canvas.
This is a time-lapse painting of one of my small original landscapes from my 'Little Moonrise Collection'.
'Purple Night Country Road'... The size is small, but this little landscape packs a lot of color into its bold deep purple star-studded evening sky and contrasting full moon. A road leads you into the quiet colorful landscape, past silhouetted trees towards two small cottages on the crest of a hill.
'Little Moonrise Collection'... I grew up in the country, and we'd get awesome huge harvest moons hanging low over the fields and shining through the trees. I always love that view, sort of magical and mysterious, throw in the sound of distant coyotes and the feeling was very transcendent, spooky, like a dream. I think your life can always be made richer by taking time to just go outside under the cover of night to take a look at the moon, she never fails to impress!
This artwork was created using acrylic paint on an 8x8 stretched canvas. Tip... when creating a painting with a strong directional light source be sure to watch the direction of the shadows. I love shadows, they always add extra contrast and depth to make the painting more interesting. I start with an orange base to make the colors I put on top brighter, plus and any gaps between strokes will show orange instead of white. This is how I start all my acrylic paintings. You'll notice part way through the tree on the right disappears. I often change a design mid-process as I like to be open to what's happening with the painting and adjust as I go.
