Red Trees River Painting Video

Watch this time-lapse to see how to paint this folk art-inspired autumn cottage landscape painting, from start to finish!

This ''Red Trees River Reflection'' landscape was created with acrylic paint on an 11x14 stretched canvas. In this time-lapse, I'm showing how I painted this colorful cottage reflections painting. This painting was sold a while ago.

Process: I really enjoyed creating this piece; it has a cheerful folk art style! The imagery in this painting is from my imagination, based on years of observation (so no source material was referenced).
You'll notice that partway through, the painting seems to turn upside-down... often when I'm painting, I'll turn the canvas around so I can see the piece in a new way. Then I turn it right side up to finish off. It seems odd I know, but the process has always worked for me lol.

This painting was created using acrylic paint on stretched canvas. I start with an orange base as it makes the colors I put on top brighter, plus any gaps between strokes will show orange instead of white. This is how I usually start all my acrylic paintings.

Paint: My palette for this piece is the same as many of my other paintings...(Cadmium Red Medium, Cadmium Orange, Red Oxide, Light Green Permanent, Brilliant Yellow Green, Dioxazine Purple, Phthalocyanine Blue, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Raw Sienna, Burnt Umber, White and Black)

Please enjoy the journey as I create this painting, and I hope you learn something new about making art. If you have any questions about my process, materials, or artwork, be sure to ask in the comments!!
Cheers, Cathy : )

***P.S.S. My intention for sharing my painting in this video is not for you to copy it, but to give you an idea of how I create a painting so you can see the process. By watching others create art, you can gain insight into the process and hopefully be inspired to develop your own approach to making art, using colors and subjects that are personal to you.
