Watch How to Paint this Still Life in Mixed Media Gouache, Painting Tutorial
Watch how I painted these bright red peppers as a still life! I'll show you the process, starting with a pencil sketch and then painting with gouache and mixed media (acrylic, pen).
This video has prompts so you can follow along, and is great for anyone wanting to learn how to paint! This tutorial concentrates on line, mark-making, colour mixing, and the use of light and shadow to create form. This is a 5x7 painting time-lapse. My goal was to experiment with the gouache and quickly capture these peppers, not to make a photo-realistic reproduction.
This type of painting style is great for plein air or when you just want to capture something without taking a long time, but still have a lovely piece at the end. I like to concentrate on mark-making as I like seeing the evidence of the art creation process. When drawing or sketching, I always feel free to add or subtract things from the source in order to make a more interesting artwork, as this painting is for purely artistic decorative purposes. If you have any questions about my process or materials, be sure to ask in the comments!
Enjoy the journey as I create this sweet little peppers painting, and I hope you learn something new about making art and how to paint from your garden!!!
Cheers, Cathy : )
