Acrylic Painting Time Lapse | How to Paint a Blue Moon Night Landscape
Paint a blue moon night painting in acrylic from start to finish! See the full process using acrylic paint on canvas.
'Blue Moon Night Cottages' from my 'Little Moonrise Collection'. This painting has lots of color, with a deep blue star-studded sky and gold and green landscape. Several cottages are perched on rolling hills towards a full big bright full moon.
I grew up in the country, in the fall and winter we'd get awesome huge harvest moons hanging low over the fields and shining through the trees. I always love that view, magical and mysterious, like a dream. I think your life can always be made richer by taking time to just go outside under the cover of night to take a look at the moon, she never fails to impress and the peace and calm of a still night is just so meditative!
This artwork was created using acrylic paint on an small 8"x10" on stretched canvas. Painting tip... when you're creating a painting that has a strong directional light source like a full moon, make sure the direction of the shadows makes sense.
Shadows always add some extra contrast and depth to make the painting more interesting. I usually start paintings with an orange base to make the colors I put on top brighter, plus and any gaps between strokes will show orange instead of white.
You'll notice that part way through, the painting seems to turn upside-down and then right-side up... often when I'm painting I'll do the initial color blocking, and then turn the canvas around so I can see the painting in a new way. When it's upside down I can logically think of my imaginary light source and how the shadows would be cast. Then I turn it right side up to finish off and give it a cohesive vibe. It seems odd I know, but the process has always works for me lol.
