Red Geranium - Original Painting on Paper

DAY 2/30 'Red Geranium' I stayed close to home for this painting. We've had this geranium for a couple years, it gets overwintered indoors and then vacations outdoors in the summer, a pretty cushy deal as far as being a plant goes lol.   

What non-artists might not know is that red is a hard color, to paint with, and to photograph. Red is one of those colors that when you add white, and depending on the the underlying tone of that shade of red, things can get washed out. When photographing red it also gets flattened into just a blob of red.

All that being said, and for the above reasons, I spent a lot longer on this painting that I expected, but in the end I feel like I was able to capture the forms of the geranium flower and leaves with a dynamic energy, I hope you think so too. Enjoy!!!
