Mid-January and the sun sets on the snow in long shadows. Although I'm not a fan of the cold, I am a fan of the coat of white that covers the land and makes it seem fresh and new and pretty.
When I originally painted this image, I was trying to capture the simplicity of a landscape without leaves or grass, nothing to interfere with the smooth sleek lines of bare trees and lacy shadows in the blue-purple snow.
I do so enjoy the seasonality of where I live in Canada. It certainly makes the landscape look dramatically different during many parts of the year. We experience all the season with the full beauty and fury that mother nature has to offer.
I enjoy painting all of them!! The changing scenes keep things fresh creatively and lets me experiment with different color palettes and textures. From the bright rich colors of fall, to the smooth snow and sandy beaches, to the lush new foliage of spring flowers.
