Acrylic Painting Time Lapse | How to Paint Fun Folk Art Cottage Trees
See how to paint a colorful cottage tree landscape painting from start to finish! I'm showing the art creation process using acrylic paint on canvas.
This time-lapse video shows how I painted this lovely scene featuring cozy white cottages under a canopy of colorful trees. The painting is a 10"x10" that sold a few years ago, but I remember that I enjoyed creating this colorful piece, it has a cheerful folk art style. The imagery in this painting is from my imagination, so no source material was referenced.
You'll notice that part way through, the painting seems to turn upside-down and then right-side up... often when I'm painting I'll do the initial color blocking, and then turn the canvas around so I can see the painting in a new way. When it's upside down I can logically think of my imaginary light source and how the shadows would be cast. Then I turn it right side up to finish off and give it a cohesive vibe. It seems odd I know, but the process has always works for me lol.
My palette for this piece is the same as many of my other paintings...(Cadmium Red Medium, Cadmium Orange, Red Oxide, Light Green Permanent, Brilliant Yellow Green, Dioxazine Purple, Phthalocyanine Blue, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Raw Sienna, Burnt Umber, White and Black).
I start with an orange base as it makes the colors I put on top brighter, plus and any gaps between strokes will show orange instead of white. This is how I usually start all my acrylic paintings. If you have any questions about my process or materials be sure to ask contact me!
